Rooted in Northern California
Low-impact logging, forest restoration, and premium forest products since 2005.
Our Story
Cross Check Services LLC was founded on August 30, 2005, in Olympic Valley, California, with a simple mission: to care for the forests of Northern California while providing the communities of Truckee, North Tahoe, and Sierraville with responsibly sourced forest products.
For over 20 years, we have partnered with the U.S. Forest Service, California State Parks, local fire districts, and private landowners to reduce wildfire risk through strategic forest thinning, fuel reduction, and sustainable timber harvests. Every product we sell — from our hand-harvested fatwood to our reclaimed pine coasters — carries the story of a healthier forest.
From Forest Thinning to Your Hearth
Our work begins in the woods. Using low-impact logging techniques and cable-yarding systems, we carefully remove excess biomass from overcrowded stands — the same material that becomes our premium fatwood, cedar kindling, and aromatic fire starters.
By turning forest restoration byproducts into useful goods, we close the loop on waste. The trees we thin improve the health of the remaining forest. The slash we chip reduces fuel loads. And the wood we salvage warms homes across the Tahoe Basin.
We do not import materials from overseas mills. We do not use chemical accelerants in our fire starters. What you hold in your hands grew within 50 miles of your doorstep in California.
What We Stand For
Sustainable Forestry
Every harvest is planned to improve forest health, not deplete it. We follow California Forest Practice Rules and work closely with registered professional foresters.
Wildfire Resilience
By reducing fuel loads and restoring natural fire regimes, we help protect California communities from catastrophic wildfire while preserving the forest for future generations.
Local First
We hire locally, deliver locally, and source locally. Our crew lives in the communities we serve, and our products reflect the unique character of California timber.
By the Numbers
Two decades of responsible forestry in the heart of California.
